What are the driving licence requirements?

A full driving license will be required at the rental desk in order for you to rent a car, provisional (learner’s) driving licenses are not accepted for the rental.

When you rent a car abroad in some countries you will need an international drivers license, as well as your own driving license. Details about the needed driving license can be found in the Terms and Conditions of any specific offer.

Will my driving licence be accepted?

Yes, most driver’s licences are accepted. You’ll need a full driving licence, not a provisional (learner’s) licence.

Please review the Terms and Conditions (T&C) of the vehicle you would like to rent in order to check any specific details.

How long do I need to have held a licence for?

Depending on the vehicle you would like to rent and the location where you are going to rent your car these details may change.

I am under 30 years old can I rent a car?

Yes, most car rental companies will rent to a person between 21 and 80. However, each car rental company has its own age requirements. Please select your age when entering your rental criteria at the search engine. Untick the box that says ‘Drivers Age At Rental Start: 30-65 and add your age. Then we’ll only show you cars that you can rent.

If you’re 21-29, you are likely to have to pay a young driver fee. Don’t worry this fee, if any, is always included in our final prices.

NOTE: When comparing our prices with others, make sure you compare FINAL prices and not ones that purposely keep surcharges hidden away!

I am over 65 years old can I rent a car?

Yes, most car rental companies will rent to people between 21 and 80 years old. However, each car rental company has its own age requirements.

What form of identification do I need to present at the rental desk?

Generally, an ID card will be sufficient, nevertheless, depending on your destination and your residence a passport might be required. To be sure that you have all the documents needed when renting the car please review the Terms and Conditions (T&C) under the “Driver requirements” paragraph for any documents you will need to present at the rental desk.

What documents do I need to present to collect the car?

The main driver needs to present the following (all held in their own name):
-An ID card/passport
-A credit card with enough credit to cover the deposit for the car
-Full driving licence
-Our eVoucher that you have received with the confirmation of the rental

NOTE: Some car rental companies might ask for any additional documents at the rental desk or would have some restrictions on the above mentioned documents. To be sure that you will have all the documents needed please review the Terms and Conditions (T&C) of your car.

What fuel does my car take?

Once you pick up the car, the representative at the rental desk will advice you what fuel type is required for the car. Usually there is an indication at the petrol cap as well.

What shall I do if the car breaks down, or if I am involved in an accident?

In case of accident, call the emergency number of the car rental company, which is indicated on the rental agreement, you got when you picked up the car. You’ll find the number on the rental agreement you signed when you picked up the car. The representative will advice you what you have to do. Call the police to report the accident, once you return the car, an accident report will be created.
